Asian American Advocacy Fund Celebrates Historic Wins in Georgia Election

Hard-fought Efforts to Reach Asian American Voters Led to a Doubled AAPI Caucus in Georgia’s Legislature as Voter Engagement Continues in Key Runoff Elections

ATLANTA -- Today,  the Asian American Advocacy Fund (AAAF) announced that thirteen of their endorsed candidates won their races and will work alongside an increasingly diverse Georgia House and Senate. “AAAF’s winning candidates are making history; they have doubled the Asian caucus in the legislature, with ten members of the Georgia General Assembly being AAPI,”said Vyanti Joseph, Political Director of AAAF “and they are joined by a record-breaking number of elected officials from immigrant communities.”

Additionally, Georgia’s Asian Americans have been more engaged in this election than in previous midterms. “We will continue to build deep connections with our communities and work alongside our newly elected leaders to advocate for policies that will change the lives of Asian Americans in Georgia,” said Aisha Yaqoob Mahmood, Executive Director of Asian American Advocacy Fund (AAAF) “we are incredibly proud of our team and volunteers who got out the vote for our endorsed candidates. This election cycle, our family of organizations, including AAAF, AAAF-IC, and AAAF-PAC, knocked on 55,000 doors, made over 788,000 phone calls, sent over 81,000 texts, delivered over 1.2 million pieces of mail, and delivered 23.4 million digital ad impressions to Georgians in English, Chinese, Hindi, Korean, and Vietnamese."

  • Nikema Williams, Congressional District 5

  • Lucy McBath Congressional District 7

  • Jason Esteves State Senate District 6

  • Solomon Adesanya State House District 43

  • Michelle Au State House District 50

  • Long Tran State House District 80

  • Karen Lupton State House District 83

  • Farooq Mughal State House District 105

  • Sam Park State House District 107

  • Jasmine Clark State House District 108

AAAF will continue to engage Asian American voters in two key runoff elections in December. AAAF-endorsed candidates, Raphael Warnock, for U.S. Senate, and Sarah Beeson, for Roswell City Council, will be heading to runoff elections. AAAF will expand its reach in key constituencies by implementing a comprehensive voter mobilization strategy that builds on 2022 primary and general election efforts, which critically turned out Asian American voters—Georgia's fastest growing population. This strategy led to record midterm election early voter turnout and historic victories. The Asian American vote secured the Senate victories of Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock in 2021 and can be influential in the upcoming Senate runoff. AAAF will continue to engage Asian American voters on these critical runoff elections in order to elect leaders who will be champions for Georgia families.

The Asian American Advocacy Fund is a grassroots 501(c)4 social welfare organization dedicated to building a politically-conscious, engaged, and progressive Asian American base in Georgia.
