Asian American Advocacy Fund Announces Diverse Group of Candidate Endorsements, Representative of Georgia

Campaign will Reach Asian American Voters in Effort to Elect Progressive Candidates in Georgia’s Midterm Election

ATLANTA -- Today, the Asian American Advocacy Fund (AAAF) endorsed a group of diverse, progressive leaders for state and local political races in Georgia. Most of these candidates come from communities of color, many have immigrant backgrounds, and all are deeply rooted in their communities.

“These candidates are committed to a just, democratic, and inclusive Georgia where each of our families can thrive,” said Aisha Yaqoob Mahmood, Executive Director of Asian American Advocacy Fund (AAAF). “We are endorsing candidates who represent us and a progressive Georgia. They represent our communities on issues ranging from fully funding public schools to increasing access to meaningful health coverage for all Georgians. They are fighting to expand and protect our right to vote, supporting workers and small businesses who are creating jobs, and providing relief and cost savings for Georgia families.”

“This midterm election year is critical to moving Georgia forward,” said Vyanti Joseph, Political Director of AAAF. “We have the opportunity to repeal undemocratic voting bills and stop harmful legislation that disproportionately affects women, immigrants, LGBTQ+ people, and communities of color. We must mobilize and elect these progressive leaders now more than ever.”

AAAF will expand its reach in key constituencies by implementing a comprehensive voter mobilization strategy that builds on the networks established in 2020, which critically turned out Asian American voters—Georgia's fastest growing population. This strategy led to record voter turnout among newly registered Asian American voters, securing the Senate victories of Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock in 2021. During the GA primary  election, AAAF deepened this reach and knocked on 6,663 doors, sent 715,408 pieces of mail, made 11,095 calls and 29,052 texts, and had 1,282 conversations with voters. AAAF is prepared to leverage these relationships and mobilize this base to elect this group of leaders who will work with our communities. These efforts complement AAAF’s larger policy agenda of empowering Asian American Georgia residents to create a society in which all community members can thrive.
