In Georgia, The Asian American Advocacy Fund Launches Endorsements of 37 Candidates for Elected Office

Gwinnett County, GA, September 9, 2020— Today, the Asian American Advocacy Fund is launching a series of endorsements in 37 crucial local, state, and national races. With only 55 days to go until the general election on November 3rd, now is the critical stretch to rally around candidates who have made it clear that they are prepared to lead with compassion, transparency, and a commitment to serving constituents. We need candidates that represent our communities and our lived experiences. Today we announce new endorsements including 19 candidates of color, six of whom come from immigrant backgrounds. We're proud to support this slate of candidates who will help us to build a better Georgia for all. In the middle of a pandemic that has exacerbated many of the underlying health and economic disparities that impact marginalized communities, it is critical to support and vote for candidates who have policy plans that address the immediate needs in Georgia and across the country.

The Asian American Advocacy fund is proud to announce our slate of candidates endorsed this cycle because they demonstrated a commitment to the values of our communities and a proven effectiveness to lead on the challenging issues that confront us all in this moment of crisis. To have earned an endorsement from the Asian American Advocacy Fund means that these candidates are using their platforms to advocate for policies that protect the best interests of Asian American/Pacific Islander communities and progressive causes across Georgia and the nation.

Nationally, these are the candidates we trust to go to Washington, DC and fight for us:

  • Jon Ossoff  (U.S. Senate)

  • Raphael Warnock (U.S. Senate-Special Election)

  • Carolyn Bourdeaux (U.S. House of Rep.-District 7)

  • Nikema Williams (U.S. House of Rep.-District 5)

In state and local races, we have endorsed 33 candidates who have demonstrated they are prepared to advocate on behalf of all Georgians. We need elected officials who are not afraid to lead on the tough issues like healthcare, immigration, education, economic opportunity, infrastructure, and criminal justice reform. The Asian American Advocacy Fund is proud to endorse our slate of candidates for the general election who have proven to be effective leaders and advocates on behalf of our values and communities.

“Addressing the challenges that disproportionately impact our communities starts with strong leadership at the local level and goes all the way up the White House. We are committed to electing bold leaders to ensure the needs of communities of color are uplifted. This election cycle is a launching point to build a foundation for a stronger, progressive, more connected Georgia and nation,” said Aisha Yaqoob Mahmood, Director of the Asian American Advocacy Fund.

The general election is November 3rd, and early voting begins October 12. The runoff for the special U.S. Senate election will be held on January 5, 2021.
