Insights into Georgia’s Asian American Communities
Woven Together is more than research — it’s a community-building project. By lifting up our voices and weaving together our experiences, we can create a roadmap to build power and shape a hopeful, thriving future where communities across Georgia can flourish together.
About the Project
Georgia’s AAPI communities are vibrant, diverse, and growing, yet too often our voices are missing from the conversations that shape policy, politics, and public life. Woven Together is an initiative by the Asian American Advocacy Fund (AAAF) to ensure our communities are seen, heard, and have the power and influence to shape Georgia’s future.
This community-driven project combines data with real stories to capture the hopes, challenges, and priorities of Georgia’s AAPI communities. The final report will create a comprehensive picture of who we are, what we care about, and how we can shape the future of our state.
By uncovering the needs and challenges faced by Georgia’s AAPI communities, this project will directly shape AAAF’s programming, advocacy, and organizing. Our findings will also serve as a tool for our partners and allies to strengthen their own work. Together, we’ll turn insight into action.
Our Approach
Digging Into the Data
We’re gathering the available research to see the bigger picture: analyzing voter files, census data, and community reports to understand voting trends, demographic shifts, and issue area concerns.
Listening to Our Communities
Numbers only tell part of the story. Through focus groups, and key stakeholder interviews, we’ll hear directly from community members about what matters most, what challenges they face, and how they want to see change happen.
Focus Groups: Voices at the Center
These conversations are designed to uplift diverse perspectives and uncover the nuance within our communities. To inform which AAPI subgroups to engage in focus groups, existing AAPI organizations across Georgia were mapped, and key subgroups were identified based on shared characteristics such as religion, ethnicity, age and gender. Guided by AAAF’s strategic visioning work, areas of interest and inquiry were prioritized to align with broader organizational goals. Additional data sources, including census information and voting trends, provided further insight.
Focus groups are designed to understand:
Political engagement and influences (assumptions, religion, outreach preferences, motivations).
Community priorities and campaign resonance (what matters most, how to engage).
