Why we're endorsing Renitta: 

Representative Renitta Shannon has proven time and time again that she is an incredible advocate for underrepresented communities in Atlanta and State of Georgia. She is known for her work championing women's rights at the Gold Dome and is a fearless ally to our communities. Rep. Shannon fights for economic opportunity and justice and has been an unwavering supporter of communities of color, the LGBTQIA+ community, and women throughout the state. We’re thrilled to endorse her for reelection to the State House.

More about Renitta: 

Rep. Shannon grew up like many Americans -- with hard-working parents working multiple jobs to make ends meet. Growing up, she learned the importance of economic opportunity and access to stable employment. Since she saw her parents work so hard, she learned the importance of working hard to succeed. 

District 84 consists of Belvedere Park, Candler-McAfee, North Decatur, North Druid Hills, Panthersville, and Scottsdale. This district is over 65% minority communities, and as a black woman, Rep. Shannon is a great representative for her district. 

Rep. Shannon has consistently advocated for women and the LGBTQIA+ community; she is the first bi-sexual legislator to serve in the Georgia General Assembly. Rep. Shannon continues to engage in critical conversations on topics of justice, whether it's economic justice, women's rights, voter suppression, or even speaking out on why representation matters. 

The Asian American Advocacy Fund is proud to endorse a strong candidate like Rep. Renitta Shannon for reelection in House District 84. She has consistently advocated for immigrant communities and people of color and respects the needs of her constituents. She continually shows up for marginalized communities, and we are thankful for her work at the State Capitol.
