Rep. Bee Nguyen
STATE HOUSE • DISTRICT 89
Why we’re endorsing Bee:
Representative Bee Nguyen has been a committed advocate for women and girls, communities of color, and refugee families in Atlanta and across the state. During her time in the legislature, she has been pushing for increased access to voting rights for Asian Americans and people of color, and has worked to protect our communities from some of the worst anti-immigrant and discriminatory legislation. She has a track record of fighting for immigrants, people of color, and advocating for refugee rights. We are excited to endorse her for reelection so she can continue to represent our Asian American community in the State House.
More about Bee:
Bee is the current representative for State House District 89, which includes Atlanta and Decatur. District 89 is a majority-minority area. Bee is a Vietnamese American who grew up with four other sisters. Her father worked a minimum wage job and studied in their basement using a cardboard box as a desk. He taught Bee that education was the only way to escape poverty.
Growing up with strong values of work ethic and education, Bee was inspired by her family to start a nonprofit to empower girls in under-resourced schools. While doing so, she had to sacrifice the stability of a job and health insurance to improve her community, which Bee believes is not something that people should face.
Bee consistently advocates for women and girls, communities of color, and refugee families. She has championed education policies, including advocating for at-risk students, fought for equality for all Georgians, regardless of nationality, race, class, immigration status, gender identity, gender expression, or sexual orientation.
The Asian American Advocacy Fund is proud to endorse Representative Bee Nguyen for reelection for State House District 89. She has stood up for our communities of color, immigrants, refugees, victims of voter suppression, and many more. Bee is a relentless advocate that will fight for her communities, and we hope to see her again in 2021 in Georgia’s Gold Dome.
