Om Duggal
State House District 99
Om Duggal (He/Him):
Born in New Delhi, India, Om Duggal immigrated to the United States with his family over two decades ago. He grew up in a middle-class family with a humble upbringing. Om and his family’s fighting spirit allowed them to successfully build their life in a new country. He moved to the US with his wife, three children, and aging parents. In 2004, he developed and opened his first and second hotels. At the same time, he was also involved in the development of a small residential community around Sugarloaf and Meadow Church Road in Duluth, GA. This experience empowered Om to stay engaged in the local community as well as get engaged with state and local government. Yet, the financial crisis of 2008 took a toll on his businesses, and he moved his family from Augusta (Evans), GA to the City of Johns Creek, eventually moving to Duluth, GA in Gwinnett County.
The move to metro Atlanta has been fruitful for his family as he has been able to reestablish his businesses, his children have expanded their educational endeavors, and he has been able to get care for his 98-year young father. In honor of his father, Om is working on a non-profit focused on senior living. Due to his lived experiences, Om is committed to supporting affordable housing, Medicaid expansion, assisting entrepreneurs and small businesses, as well as looking out for the best interests of immigrant and minority families. Om understands what it means to fight for the Asian American community, which is especially important given 32.5% of House District 99 is Asian.
Why We’re Endorsing:
Om has promised to always be a vote to protect and expand voting and civil rights. He will work to repeal SB 202 and pass a bill to expand voting protections and ease of access in GA, enshrine civil rights protections for immigrants, LGBTQ+, and people of color into Georgia's constitution and laws, and repeal restrictive laws that ban abortion and reproductive healthcare in Georgia. He wants to expand language access and increase awareness for government services (specifically state services) in Georgia, including making improvements in the Labor department as it relates to unemployment and job placement/training programs. He wants to fully fund our public schools by updating the QBE formula and stop attacks on factual history, civics, and SEL education that will endanger our students, and wants to expand Medicaid, support small businesses and entrepreneurs, making it easier for those wanting to start businesses to obtain grants/loans and other forms of startup capital and support. He hopes to expand technical and public college access in Georgia and restore the cuts to the HOPE scholarship program so that more Georgians can afford higher education.
Key Issues:
