ABOUT MICHELLE COOPER KELLY:

Michelle Cooper Kelly was born in Oxford, North Carolina and has lived in Marietta, Georgia for 25 years with her husband and three children. Michelle was elected to serve on the Marietta City Council in November 2013. She served two terms as Mayor Pro Tem for the City of Marietta. Active in politics, community, and education since college, Michelle has become a leadership professional in both the private and government sectors. Michelle currently serves as 2nd Vice-President for the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) and is the former Chair of the GMA Community Development Policy Committee representing 537 cities in Georgia.

WHY WE’RE ENDORSING MICHELLE:

Having served in the Marietta City Council since 2013, Michelle is an experienced leader. She wants to bridge the gaps between different communities of Marietta as well as address the growing diversity within the city. Michelle’s time on the City Council and knowledge regarding the people’s needs is evidence of her ability to make good on her commitment to building a community that would be welcoming for all.

Michelle brings a depth of knowledge and experience as a candidate for Mayor of Marietta. Her campaign focuses on affordable housing and fostering an inclusive community that includes the youth, young professionals, and young families.

Michelle believes that education is one of the most important factors in helping decrease poverty rates within Marietta. Her vision for economic growth includes innovation and job creation. She is committed to recruiting new small and commercial businesses, embracing and encouraging business innovation, and workforce development. She believes in providing residents rental assistance to help alleviate poverty rates, and providing people a living wage. We believe endorsing Michelle Cooper Kelly is an opportunity to ensure that the leadership of Marietta reflects the people of Marietta.
