Farooq Mughal
State House District 105
About Farooq Mughal (He/Him):
As a business leader, public policy expert, mediator, and former chairman of the Gwinnett County Community Outreach Board, Farooq Mughal has dedicated his life to public service. He is running to bring a record of experience and service to the Georgia House of Representatives (District 105 - Buford, Dacula, and Lawrenceville). Farooq has always given his heart to working for the betterment of Georgia’s underserved communities. In May 2012, he served on the Steering Committee of the White House Initiatives on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders Southeast Regional Summit hosted in Atlanta at Emory University. He also was instrumental in coordinating the first Asian American Legislative Day at the Georgia Capitol. Recognized for his leadership and work, Farooq was invited to the White House in May 2013 to meet President Obama and then-Vice President Joe Biden.
Why We’re Endorsing:
If elected to the state legislature, Farooq will work to reduce healthcare costs, especially the costs of insulin at a state level. Having a diabetic mother has only increased his understanding of the need for affordable healthcare. He also stands against the wave of classroom censorship bills passed by the Georgia General Assembly earlier this year, emphasizing the need for teaching students accurate history rather than penalizing teachers for doing their jobs. As a self-identified feminist, Farooq recognizes the need for more education on domestic violence and the way it is harming our communities.
Key Issues:
Economic mobility - small businesses
Affordable healthcare
Teaching accurate history in schools
Voter rights
