Dr. Michelle Au
State House District 50
About Dr. Michelle Au (She/Her):
Dr. Michelle Au currently serves as Senator for Georgia’s 48th State Senate District. As the first Asian American woman in the Georgia Senate, she has been a passionate supporter of the Asian American and Pacific Islander community. With the 2021 redistricting process causing many district lines to change, Dr. Au is now running to be a State Representative for Georgia’s 50th State House District, which has a 35.5% Asian population, against another Asian-American opponent.
Dr. Au is the child of Chinese immigrants who instilled in her a belief that equal opportunity is available to all. She grew up in New York City, graduated from Wellesley College in Massachusetts, and then returned to NYC to pursue medical school at Columbia University. Dr. Au eventually moved to Georgia in 2008 and is, along with her husband, raising her three children in Johns Creek. As a doctor, Michelle understands that health is determined by many factors, including access to healthcare, education, economic opportunity, and safety. She brings a unique perspective by being the only Democratic physician in the General Assembly.
