Rev. Raphael Warnock
U.S. Senate (Special Election)
ABOUT Rev. RAPHAEL WARNOCK:
Reverend Raphael Warnock, a Senior Pastor at the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, has used his strong faith and belief system to fight for the needs of Georgia families. As a champion of healthcare and voting rights, Rev. Warnock has a clear understanding of the issues that impact communities of color. We’re excited to support him and help make sure Georgia has a strong advocate for voting rights in the U.S. Senate.
WHY WE’RE ENDORSING Rev. Warnock:
Reverend Warnock has built a strong reputation in Georgia in his role as Senior Pastor at MLK’s Ebenezer Baptist Church, in addition to his activism. As a Savannah native, he grew up in public housing with his 11 siblings. Reverend Warnock attended Morehouse College, earned his Ph.D, and became ordained in the Ministry. He currently serves in the pulpit of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and has continuously served his community outside of the Church. Reverend Warnock understands the struggles that many Georgia families face and is ready to stand up for them.
In 2014, Reverend Warnock was involved in an act of activism at the Georgia State Capitol in which he helped to lead a sit-in to urge state legislators to accept Medicaid expansion, as was offered by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Reverend Warnock was one of the thirty-nine individuals arrested during this sit-in. Having advocated for reproductive justice, as well as accessible healthcare for all, he has proven his commitment to expanding healthcare rights and access.
Reverend Warnock has also been a strong advocate for voting rights. He served as Chair for the Board of the New Georgia Project and has spoken out against voter suppression within his capacity as a Chairperson for NGP. In order to honor the legacy that the Late John Lewis left behind, Reverend Warnock seeks to reinstitute the Voting Rights Act while in office. Amid a global pandemic, he also pushes for giving states the resources they need to protect the right to vote. He believes that elections must be fair, open, and safe for every eligible citizen, and that Americans shouldn’t have to choose between their life and their vote.
As an advocate for voting rights, healthcare, economic justice, reproductive rights, and the queer community, we believe that Reverend Warnock is a great candidate for U.S. Senate. While he has many connections in metro-Atlanta, he is also deeply committed to including the non-metro-Atlanta areas in his representation. The Asian American Advocacy Fund proudly endorses Reverend Raphael Warnock for U.S. Senate!
