Rep. Donna McLeod

Georgia State House, District 105

ABOUT DONNA MCLEOD:

Rep. Donna McLeod has served as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives since 2019, representing District 105. She is a passionate champion of civic engagement and civic responsibility and actively pushes for better voting practices to increase voter accessibility. Rep. McLeod has proven that she is committed to advocating for immigrants and educating marginalized communities on the importance of their roles in society and the power of the vote to create change. We’re excited to support her reelection campaign!

WHY WE’RE ENDORSING DONNA:

Representative McLeod is a first-generation American and an immigrant. Born in Jamaica and raised in Canada, she moved to Georgia in 1998 and became a US citizen in 2012. She has lived in Lawrenceville for 20 years and she is the first Jamaican-American to become a Representative in Georgia. Rep. McLeod has worked as a chemical engineer for 20 years, and is a proud mother and grandmother. She believes that every individual should be actively involved in democratic and civic processes; she emphasizes that through voting we can have a say in the decisions that affect virtually all aspects of our lives.

Serving as a Georgia State House Rep. for District 105 since 2019, Rep. McLeod has worked hard to bring positive change to Georgia. She worked with the Department of Corrections and Department of Community Services to update the release documents for ex-Felons who have served their time so that they will know their voting rights are restored. She also worked with the Secretary of State to update the MVP (My Voter Page) so that every registered voter will know what Board of Commissioners district and School Board district they live in. Rep. McLeod has been vocal against voter suppression efforts.

Rep. McLeod is supportive of fully funding public education. She is currently working on determining the best way to update the outdated QBE (Quality Basic Education) formula to find a more equitable funding solution for Georgia’s public schools. Furthermore, she is supportive of restoring HOPE Scholarship to its 100% funding in order to ease the burden of student loan debt and reduce the deficit of qualified people to meet our workforce demand.

As an advocate for increased voter protections, healthcare, and our communities, the Asian American Advocacy Fund believes Representative Donna McLeod will continue to advocate for all Georgians after her re-election, and we are so proud to endorse her!
