Asian American Advocacy Fund Independent Committee Announces Major Initiative to Mobilize Asian American Voters for Abrams for Governor
Campaign will Reach Asian American Voters in Effort to Elect Stacey Abrams
ATLANTA -- In 2020, the Asian American Advocacy Fund Political Action Committee (AAAF-PAC) mobilized unprecedented Asian American turnout in Georgia and spearheaded the federal campaign that elected Senators Ossoff and Warnock and flipped Georgia’s senate seats. Harnessing the success of these momentous wins, the Asian American Advocacy Fund - Independent Committee (AAAF-Independent Committee) is re-launching the 2018 Asians for Abrams campaign. This initiative will be run by a “dream team” of Asian American political organizers in Georgia.
“Whether you care about climate, immigration, or the economy, the road to progress runs through Georgia,” said Aisha Yaqoob Mahmood, Executive Director of Asian American Advocacy Fund (AAAF). “Asian voters came out in 2020 to elect Jon Ossoff and Rafael Warnock to represent Georgia in the U.S. Senate because they understood that our communities were on the line. This is no less true in 2022, and we’re committed to doing everything we can to ensure that Stacey Abrams becomes Georgia’s next governor.”
This campaign will utilize and reinvigorate the infrastructure and organizing networks built by Asians for Ossoff and Warnock in 2020, which critically turned out Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPIs) voters—the fastest growing population in Georgia. AAPI voter turnout hit record high in 2020 - 65% in the 2020 General Election. The campaign solidified Georgia’s status as a swing state by leaving no votes on the table. They energized a multilingual volunteer and staff base that made 1 million phone calls; knocked on 100,000 doors; and sent 350,000 texts in 8 Asian languages (Korean, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Tagalog, Hindi, Urdu, Gujurati, and Bangla).

This effort will complement AAAF’s larger policy agenda of empowering Asian American Georgia residents to create a society in which all community members can thrive.
