The Asian American Advocacy Fund Endorses Nicole Love Hendrickson in her race for Gwinnett County Commision Chair

Gwinnett County, GA, July 24, 2020 — Today, the Asian American Advocacy Fund is proud to announce our endorsement of Nicole Love Hendrickson in her race for Gwinnett County Commision Chair. Nicole is a longtime public servant who has demonstrated her steadfast commitment to serving Gwinnetians and we believe her leadership and compassion are needed in this moment now, more than ever.

With a background in social work and community planning, Nicole has used her time in Gwinnett County to push the local government to be more open and responsive to the needs of its constituents, especially communities of color, which make up a majority of Gwinnett County. As a woman of color, Nicole understands intimately the challenges facing communities of color because their governments have failed them, and she has a longstanding record of working to correct those injustices. Nicole values the power of community-building and has formed relationships with Gwinnett county residents of diverses backgrounds and experiences in order to better understand and meet their needs. In her time in public service, Nicole has advocated for economic empowerment for disenfranchised communities including: revitalizing critical transportation infrastructure, expanding accessibility to small businesses, workforce development, and literacy support programs. Nicole knows that when all of us have an equal opportunity to access the resources and support our communities need to thrive, the quality of life for all Gwinnett residents will improve. In the midst of a pandemic that is disproportionately impacting communities of color both health-wise and economically, it is imperative to instill our trust in a proven leader who will prioritize a local agenda that works to equitably address the needs of our community.The Black, Latinx, and AANHPI constituents who comprise a majority of residents in Gwinnett county deserve a County Commission Chair who will make a long-term commitment to investing in our communities and redressing previous harm.

To have earned an endorsement from the Asian American Advocacy Fund means that Nicole is using her platform to advocate for policies that protect the best interests of Asian American/Pacific Islander communities and progressive causes across Georgia and the nation. We are proud Nicole Love Hendrickson has earned our endorsement and we wish her the best in her campaign to lead the Gwinnett County Commission.

The run-off election in Georgia will take place August 11. The general election will take place November 3.
