Nabilah Islam Parkes
State Senate District 7
About nabilah islam parkes (She/her):
Nabilah Islam Parkes is a lifelong organizer, community advocate, and the daughter of working-class immigrants. Growing up, Nabilah saw firsthand the devastating effects that our broken healthcare system can have on families. These experiences instilled in her the values to give back to her community and help uplift future generations so they don’t have to go through the same barriers she faced as a South Asian, Muslim woman growing up in Georgia. She was elected to the Georgia State Senate in 2022, making her the youngest woman ever, the first Muslim woman, and the first South Asian woman elected to the State Senate.
Why We’re Endorsing:
As an incumbent, Nabilah has been a champion for AAAF’s policy priorities, proactively supporting Freedom to Drive and In-State tuition bills. These bills respectively provide driver’s license access and in-state tuition to all Georgia residents regardless of legal residency and immigration status. Additionally she advocated against hateful bills such as HB 30, a bill that falsely equated certain criticism of the state of Israel with antisemitism. She has had an incredibly aligned voting record to the needs of our communities and commits to continuing to work closely with AAAF on policy priorities if re-elected. Nabilah has worked tirelessly to advocate for policies that would improve the lives of Georgia families, such as strengthening schools, lowering costs for families, and expanding services for Medicaid recipients. She aims to continue advancing progressive policies that will lead to societal change and tackle discrimination.
Key Issues:
