Dr. Vickie Benson

Cobb Board of Education, Post 1

ABOUT VICKIE BENSON:

Vickie is an educator, parent, and leader who is prepared to shape a Cobb County school district that best serves the needs of every student. For too long, not every child has been afforded a safe, supportive, and empowering educational experience, and Vickie is prepared to challenge the status quo. From her plans to recruit and retain diverse teaching staff, partnering with families and teachers to create safer environments for students, and developing culturally relevant curricula, Vickie is prepared to lead a diverse Cobb County school system.

WHY WE’RE ENDORSING VICKIE:

Vickie Benson is a STEM educator who has taught in Cobb County and Fulton County, served as an educational consultant, and an education scholar. Vickie currently teaches in Chambers County and is active in the school’s leadership team.

She is running to be the next Post 1 Board Member of the Cobb School Board because she wants to implement a strategic plan on “Bridging A Multicultural Community Through Education Diversity and Cultural Acceptance” while focusing on equity, equality, and removal of barriers for all children in the Cobb County School District. She believes that the most pressing issues in Cobb County Schools are systemic racism and inequity. As the next school board member, she plans to aggressively address student achievement gaps and secure funding for schools serving minority and disadvantaged students.

Vickie is dedicated to recruiting and retaining diverse staff by hiring educators that reflect the student body, establishing diversity mentorship, and building diverse school leadership teams. As an educator herself, Vickie knows that teachers need more technology, support, and learning communities and she will fight to improve their working conditions.

Vickie is an experienced teacher, entrepreneur, and leader who has the skills to bring her vision for an equitable, safe, and inclusive public school system to life. Vickie is committed to redressing the grievances of students of color and is invested in removing barriers to the success of every child. Beyond superficial “equality”, Vickie is prepared to use her classroom experience and her personal connection to the Cobb County school district to improve the learning environment for every student. Her dedication to advocating on behalf of underserved communities makes her an excellent candidate, and the Asian American Advocacy Fund is proud to endorse her!
