Asian American Advocacy Fund Announces a Diverse Group of Local Candidate Endorsements in Georgia
CAMPAIGN WILL REACH ASIAN AMERICAN VOTERS IN EFFORT TO ELECT PROGRESSIVE CANDIDATES
ATLANTA -- Today, The Asian American Advocacy Fund (AAAF) announces their support for nine candidates for office in the 2023 municipal elections:
Shenée Holloway - Duluth City Council, Post 5
Joseph Payne - Lilburn City Council, Post 2
Madelyn Orochena - Kennesaw City Council, Post 1
Anthony Gutierrez - Kennesaw City Council, Post 2
Oscar Lanza Menjivar - Morrow City Council, Post 4
Vinh Nguyen - Tucker City Council, District 2, Post 2
Awet “Howard” Eyasu - Clarkston City Council
Debra D. Johnson - Clarkston City Council
Krista Durant - Clarkston City Council
“These candidates represent a progressive Georgia,” said Aisha Yaqoob Mahmood, Executive Director of AAAF. “Each of our endorsed candidates are the best choice to address the most pressing issues for working class communities and communities of color - including AAAF’s Asian American base.”
“AAAF is dedicated to building relationships between our local communities and elected officials,” said Ashna Khanna, Deputy Director of AAAF. “This is our opportunity to lead on the issues we care about: affordable housing, economic opportunities. language access, a voice in local government decisions, and quality education.”
AAAF has long engaged in year-round organizing to activate and expand our community relationships with the Asian American community in Georgia. AAAF will continue to mobilize Asian Americans with a comprehensive voter mobilization program throughout 2023 into 2024 to build effective, progressive power, focusing on key electoral races.
