Asian American Advocacy Fund Announces a Diverse Group of Local and State Candidate Endorsements in Georgia
CAMPAIGN WILL REACH ASIAN AMERICAN VOTERS IN EFFORT TO ELECT PROGRESSIVE CANDIDATES
ATLANTA -- Today, The Asian American Advocacy Fund (AAAF) announces their support for six candidates for office in the 2024 Georgia primary election:
Shana V. White - Gwinnett School Board District 3
Dr. Tarece Johnson-Morgan - Gwinnett School Board District 5
Bryce Berry - State House District 56
Marvin Lim - State House District 98
Gabriel Sanchez - State House District 42
Sally Harrell - State Senate District 40
These endorsed candidates were selected through a process which determined their values alignment with AAAF, their levels of community engagement, and their vision to advocate for policy priorities and be strong advocates for Asian American communities in Georgia.
“Our Asian American community members were actively engaged in the endorsement process to ensure that these candidates truly represent a vision of a better Georgia for us all” said Aisha Yaqoob Mahmood, Executive Director of AAAF. “They are the best choice to address the most pressing issues for working class communities and communities of color.”
“By endorsing and campaigning in support of candidates who are values-aligned we hope to continue to build towards a political landscape in Georgia that will work for Asian American and immigrant communities,” said Ashna Khanna, Deputy Director of AAAF. “This is our opportunity to lead on the issues we care about: quality education, economic opportunities, immigrants rights, and affordable healthcare.”
AAAF has long engaged in year-round organizing to activate and expand relationships with the Asian American community in Georgia. This year, AAAF will continue to expand its reach in Fulton, Gwinnett, DeKalb, and Cobb Counties. The Asian American electorate has continued to make state and local races competitive, highlighting that Georgia's fastest growing population is an increasingly important voting block capable of delivering critical margins of victory. AAAF is prepared to mobilize our base to elect progressive leaders who will work with our communities to address their needs.
