Virtual Candidate Forum: Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners Chairman
Gwinnett County, GA — On Thursday, May 7, 2020, at 6:30 PM ET five candidates in the race for Chairman of the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners will gather for a virtual candidate forum to discuss their platforms and answer questions from viewers. The forum will be hosted by the Asian-American Advocacy Fund, The New Georgia Project Action Fund, the GALEO Impact Fund, and Georgia Equality.
This race is important to watch because Gwinnett County sits in one of the most racially diverse districts in the Southeast and political trends during the primaries could weigh heavily as an indicator of turnout during the upcoming presidential election. Two Democrats serve on the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners, and if any of the candidates participating in the forum are elected the Board will flip to Democratic control for the first time in more than three decades. This primary race will be one to watch and the virtual forum Thursday presents an opportunity for voters to engage and hold candidates accountable.
